As an artist I work in painting, printmaking, collage, book arts and on occasion sculpture. My inspiration comes from many sources: the natural world, the cultural world of books, my imagination, to name a few. I love texture: peeling paint, layers of peeling posters, anything with a patina that suggests its age and longtime useage. Because I work abstractly my themes and content evolve from working with design elements: color, line, mark, texture, shape, form. These are explored and organized according to design principles: contrast, value, balance, harmony. To these I would add gesture, a particularly human action.
I am very much materials driven; my material of choice is paper and anything that makes a mark on paper. I find that working this way allows for a lot of exploring and spontaneity in my creative process.
